Literacy courses in Basel
Here you will find our literacy courses, designed for foreign language speakers who cannot read or write at all or only with great difficulty or who do not know the Latin alphabet.
Depending on the level, participants acquire or expand reading and writing skills, learn the Latin alphabet and numbers, develop phonological awareness and improve oral communication to cope with everyday life. Participants increase their ability to express themselves, strengthen their learning strategies and learn to use language resources appropriately.
ECAP Basel offers two different formats, which differ in the level of course intensity.
Intensive literacy
Semi-intensive literacy course with 2 lessons per day, from 8.30 to 10.00 or 10.30 to 12.00 Monday to Friday. The course lasts 8 weeks and includes 80 lessons.
Standard Literacy
Intensive literacy course with 2 lessons per week in the afternoon or evening. The course lasts 20 weeks and includes 200 lessons. For participants of the afternoon courses we offer a crèche service.
Free entrance test
Registration is only binding once you have taken the free placement test. Based on your starting level, we will place you in the most appropriate course so that you can learn optimally.
Free vouchers from Basel-City
Have you received a free voucher from the Canton of Basel-Stadt? You can use the voucher to attend a course of 80 lessons free of charge. At ECAP Basel, you can use the voucher to attend the following courses: Intensive Literacy, Afternoon Literacy or Evening Literacy.
The cost of the course depends on where you live. Private participants living in the canton of Basel-Stadt receive a 90% reduction on the course fee. Participants living in the canton of Basel-Landschaft receive a reduction of 80%.
